Description

Each session has its own syllabus and session test (homework) and session evaluation report. The last session is committed solely to preparation for the Road Test.

Course Outline & Key Learnings per Session

Session 1: Vehicle Controls & Essential Responsibilites (Click to View Sample)

  • Identify and operate 8 primary vehicle controls.
  • Perform complete pre-drive inspection sequence.
  • Review safety belt & texting laws (FS 316.305 & FS 316.306).

Session 2: Acceleration & Braking

  • Grasp vehicle dynamics: weight transfer, grip, and traction.
  • Identify and learn to control skids.
  • Understand hydroplaning causes, prevention, and recovery.

Session 3: Lane Science and Steering Dynamics

  • Master proper steering techniques and turn execution.
  • Understand turn signals, lane positioning, and risks.
  • Execute three-point turns and safe backing procedures.
  • Analyze lane change risks and proper mirror usage.

Session 4: Intersection Intelligence

  • Define right-of-way hierarchy and its role in safety.
  • Navigate roundabouts safely and efficiently.
  • Analyze common causes of intersection collisions.
  • Determine safe gap assessment for pulling into traffic.

Session 5: Flow Integration: Merging and Lane Changes

  • Identify dangers associated with merging into traffic flow.
  • Understand risks of lane changing and sharing space.
  • Debunk the "blind spot" myth through proper mirror setup.
  • Analyze fatality risks of passing on two-lane roads (FS 316.085).

Session 6: Spatial Geometry: Precision Parking Techniques

  • Execute straight-in parking and manage reverse-exit risks.
  • Understand hill parking procedures and laws (FS 316.195).
  • Identify illegal parking scenarios (FS 316.1945).
  • Interpret curb paint colors and parking lot laws/signs.

Session 7: Eco-Awareness and Sharing the Road

  • Apply pedestrian right-of-way rules (FS 316.130).
  • Yield properly to cyclists and understand space requirements.
  • Recognize motorcycle visibility challenges.
  • Utilize mirrors effectively for motorcycle awareness.
