Description

The Physics of Control 4 Hours of Knowledge & Behind-the-Wheel Training in two two-hour sessions
This package delivers the first two critical modules of the Florida Driving Academy curriculum. Unlike standard driving lessons that focus on "aiming" the car, we focus on controlling the machine.
Module 1: The Cockpit & Control (Session 1) We strip away bad habits and rebuild the driver's relationship with the vehicle from the ground up.
  • Ergonomics & Geometry: Resetting seat position and establishing the "9 & 3" arm geometry for maximum leverage and airbag safety.
  • BGE Mirror Calibration: Implementing the "Blindzone Glare Elimination" setting to geometrically eliminate blind spots, validated by dynamic traffic tracking.
  • The "Blind Touch" Protocol: Drills requiring the student to locate all 9 primary controls (wipers, hazards, defocusing, etc.) by touch alone, ensuring eyes remain on the road.
  • Low-Speed Modulation: Mastering the "Creep"—moving the vehicle using brake pressure release only (no gas) for parking lot precision.
Module 2: Longitudinal Dynamics (Session 2) We move from static control to dynamic forces, teaching the student how to manage weight transfer during acceleration and braking.
  • The "Limo Stop": Techniques to release brake pressure right before a stop to prevent "Nose Dive" and suspension rebound.
  • Threshold Braking: Finding the "Edge of Grip" at 30mph—braking firmly without locking the tires or triggering ABS.
  • ABS Emergency Procedures: Full-force "Stomp" drills at 45mph to desensitize the student to the pulsing of Anti-Lock Brakes and the noise of emergency stopping.
  • Passenger-Side Drills: The student manages the brake from the passenger seat while the instructor drives, isolating the "muscle memory" of the leg from the visual distraction of steering.
Note: This package covers parking lot and low-speed neighborhood environments only. It does not include Intersection Logic, Highway Merging, or Defensive Maneuvers.

Course Outline & Key Learnings per Session

Session 1: BAS1-Vehicle Controls & Essential Responsibilites (Click to View Sample)

  • Identify and operate 8 primary vehicle controls.
  • Perform complete pre-drive inspection sequence.
  • Review safety belt & texting laws (FS 316.305 & FS 316.306).

Session 2: BAS2-Acceleration & Braking

  • Grasp vehicle dynamics: weight transfer, grip, and traction.
  • Identify and learn to control skids.
  • Understand hydroplaning causes, prevention, and recovery.

Enrolled students access all syllabi, tests, and reports via their dashboard.
